About Shawanda Renee Obey, MD

A medical graduate of the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, Shawanda Renee Obey, MD, balances a career as an OB hospitalist with a dedication to the community. She also maintains an interest in addressing health care inequality in America, particularly the dramatic disparity in health care access and outcomes based on race. As part of this commitment, Shawanda Renee Obey, MD, serves as a provider for the nonprofit group Community Health Alliance of Pasadena (CHAP), where she offers OB services to women from underserved communities.
In addition to her work with CHAP, Dr. Shawanda Obey stands out as the lead OB hospitalist for the OB Hospitalist Group (OBHG) in Pasadena. In this role, she provides emergency and acute obstetric care at Huntington Memorial Hospital, one of the top-ranked hospitals in the country. She also handles administrative functions for OBHG and ensures a fluid partnership between the group and Huntington Memorial.
Prior to her current positions, Dr. Shawanda Obey served as an award-winning solo OB/GYN practitioner in Plano, Texas, a clinical risk analyst, and an independent contract physician. Furthermore, she is a fellow of American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, among other professional groups.Education
